Your numbers

About 50 km a day. Your odometer over a month gives the real figure.
Shown on the trip computer. If you know km per litre instead, divide 100 by it: 14 km/L is about 7.1 L/100 km.

How it's calculated

Fuel cost is litres used multiplied by the price per litre. Litres come from how far you drive and how much fuel the car uses per 100 km:

litres a month = km a month × L/100 km ÷ 100 and cost = litres × price per litre

With BUDI95, the first 300 litres a month are at the subsidised price and anything beyond is at the unsubsidised RON95 price.

Worked example (the default inputs). Driving 1,500 km a month in a car that uses 7 L/100 km burns 1,500 × 7 ÷ 100 = 105 litres. At the BUDI95 price of RM 1.99 that is RM 208.95 a month and RM 2,507.40 a year, or 13.9 sen per kilometre.

Without the subsidy, at RM 4.32 a litre, the same driving costs RM 453.60 a month.

Prices on this page are the official prices for 22 October 2026 to 28 October 2026. They change every week; update the price field if you are reading this later.

BUDI95 and the subsidised price

Since 30 September 2025, RON95 at RM 1.99 a litre has been limited to Malaysian citizens through the BUDI95 programme, with eligibility checked by MyKad at the pump. Everyone else, and eligible drivers above the monthly quota, pays the unsubsidised price, which follows the market every week. It was RM 2.60 a litre when BUDI95 began and RM 4.32 in the week shown above, which is why the gap between the two can be large and why the quota matters for people who drive long distances.

Diesel

Private diesel vehicle owners who qualify for BUDI Diesel pay the subsidised price; others pay the weekly unsubsidised price. Since June 2026 the retail diesel price in Sabah and Sarawak has been aligned with the price in Peninsular Malaysia, with eligible residents of Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan covered by BUDI Diesel. Commercial vehicles under the subsidised diesel control system have their own price.

FAQ

How much is petrol in Malaysia this week?

For 22 October 2026 to 28 October 2026 the Ministry of Finance set RON97 at RM 4.80 a litre, RON95 without subsidy at RM 4.32 and diesel without subsidy at RM 5.07. Eligible Malaysians pay RM 1.99 for RON95 under BUDI95 and RM 2.10 for diesel under BUDI Diesel. Prices change every week, so check the date above before relying on them.

Who gets the BUDI95 price?

Malaysian citizens with a MyKad and an active driving licence, who pay at the pump with their MyKad. The monthly limit is 300 litres from 1 September 2026; litres beyond that are charged at the unsubsidised RON95 price, which this calculator applies automatically.

How are fuel prices set each week?

Under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism, the unsubsidised prices of RON97, RON95 and diesel follow the average international market price of the previous week, and the Ministry of Finance announces the new prices every Wednesday for the following seven days. Subsidised BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel prices stay fixed unless the government changes them.

How do I find my car’s real fuel consumption?

Fill the tank to full, reset the trip meter, drive normally, and at the next full refill divide the litres added by the kilometres driven, then multiply by 100. Trip computers are usually a little optimistic. City driving, air conditioning, short trips and heavy loads all raise consumption.

How can I cut my fuel bill?

Drive smoothly, keep tyres at the pressure on the door frame, remove unnecessary weight, and combine short trips. Check whether your car actually needs RON97; most cars sold in Malaysia are designed for RON95, which is cheaper even without subsidy. For a bigger change, compare the running cost of an electric car with the EV versus petrol calculator.
