About KiraLah

KiraLah is a set of free calculators for everyday money questions in Malaysia: road tax, car and home loans, stamp duty, overtime, savings. Each one shows its working and names its source.

Who runs it

KiraLah is built and maintained by one person in Malaysia, with no company behind it and no financial product to sell. It started from a simple annoyance: every calculator online either hid the formula, quoted a rate with no date, or was really an advertisement for a loan. The site exists to answer the question properly and then get out of the way.

How the rates are checked

Every official figure on the site, from the JPJ road tax bands to the Stamp Act tiers and the Employment Act multipliers, lives in a data file that records where it came from and when it was last checked. The sources are the agencies themselves: JPJ, the Ministry of Transport, KWSP, PERKESO, LHDN, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Attorney General’s Chambers for the text of the Acts and gazette orders, PTPTN and ASNB. News reports and other calculators are used only as pointers to where the official document might be, never as the source.

The date each file was last checked is printed at the foot of every calculator, with links to the documents. After each Budget speech and whenever an agency announces a change, the affected files are reviewed and the date updated. If a page relies on a figure that has not yet been confirmed from an official document, it is kept out of the index and marked as a draft until it has.

What the results are

Estimates for planning. The calculators apply the published formula to the numbers you type. They cannot see your agreement, your bank’s rounding, the state you live in or the exemptions you may qualify for. Before you commit money, confirm the final figure with the bank, JPJ, LHDN or the agency concerned.

Two languages

Every page is written separately in English and in Bahasa Melayu, by hand, not machine-translated. Switch with the link in the header; the numbers you have entered carry across.
